Trifari Maker's Marks and Trademarks
Here you will find a collection of Trifari makers marks used through the years and get a general idea of when each mark was used. The last 26 items on this page are Trifari trademarks.

Trifari marked almost all their jewelry. In their very early years they did not mark all their jewelry but those pieces are pretty rare. I have only run into a few pieces that I was sure were Trifari that were not marked - for example when they transitioned from making clip earrings to post earrings. Also, their markings usually didn't wear off like Coro or other manufacturers marks.
1918 through 1925
"TK" in block letters in a circle was used - this was before Fishel joined the company in 1925.

"KTF" (for TKF) was used during this period but so was "TRIFARI PAT NO 2050804" and "TRIFARI CLIP MATES" both with crowns over the "T"s
I read somewhere once that in November or December of 1937 their advertiser suggested that the Italian sounding "TRIFARI" would have more allure than the "KTF" so that is when they started the transition. That also ties into the "TRIFARI" 1937 trademark shown below.

"KTF" (TKF) on the back of a Clip Mate
(I've seen clip mates from 1937, 1938 and 1939 so this one and the two below would have probably been made during that period.) |

"TRIFARI PAT. NO. 2050804" with a crown over the "T". This was a utility patent and was granted on Aug 11, 1936 for the clip mechanism. It's kind of hard to see but the "PAT NO 2050804" in in the track.

1936 to 1955
"TRIFARI PAT PEND" with a crown over the "T" was used mostly during this period. Trifari started patenting their designs in 1937 (but they did have 3 vanity design patents in 1926, 1 utility patent in 1932 and 2 utility patents in 1936). The last design patent they had was in 1955.
Also used during this period was "TRIFARI" with the crown and no other markings and "TRIFARI DESIGN PAT PEND" with the crown over the "T". (This was generally seen on the tops of earring clips.)

I have also seen 1948 Trifari earrings marked "TRIFARI PAT PEND" and "COPR" and a 1949 bracelet and earring set with the same markings.

This was on the back of a 1941 brooch that the patent had already been granted for.

"COPR TRIFARI PAT. PEND" This particular one was on the back of a fold over clasp on a 1949 bracelet that matched Trifari 4 leaf clover patent # 154,064.

"TRIFARI" with a crown over the "T" and no other markings.
This particular one was on the back of a 1951 Trifari "Dogwood" earring. Keep in mind that this same marking was used sometimes during this period but this same marking can be seen on pieces into the 1960's so just because it is marked like this does not make it pre-1955. I have actually seen quite a bit of mid 1960's Trifari jewelry marked this way. |

Clip back for 1954 Trifari "Minuet" earring. The patent that was eventually granted for these earrings was patent # 172,175. It has the "TRIFARI" with the crown and the words "DESIGN PAT PEND" on the tops of the clips. The first earrings I have seen this wording on were made in 1952.

1942 to 1947
"TRIFARI STERLING" This mark was used on the sterling silver pieces that were manufactured during the war when materials were restricted.
1955 to 1970's
"TRIFARI" with the copyright symbol. While companies could actually protect their designs with copyrights as early as 1947, most jewelry companies did not (except possibly Coro). It wasn't until Charel Jewelry Company copied some of Trifari's designs and Trifari took them to court and won (in 1955) that companies felt like their designs would actually be protected under the copyright law. It was then that most costume jewelry companies began using the copyright process because it was cheaper and easier to obtain than a patent.

1960 Trifari "Ecstasy" brooch. It still has the tall crown.

1964 Trifari "Wreath" ad piece. It has the Trifari marking on a raised rectangular cartouche. Notice the textured back - they started doing this in the very early 1960's - this type of finishing was faster and less expensive to accomplish than the hand polishing backs they were previously doing. At this point the only pieces that had the polished smooth backs were the more expensive lines like the Jewels of India collections.

1977 Rose brooch from the "Masterpiece" collection. I also saw the same signature on my 1977 catalogue necklace "Interloop Futura" and another necklace I am pretty sure was from right around 1977.

"TRIFARI" on a raised rectangular cartouche with the 'trademark' "TM" symbol. I believe the pieces with the date (I have seen 1995, 1996 and 1997) are the limited edition pieces (production usually limited to 350 to 500 pieces) that were sold on QVC. Many of these pieces were reproductions of some of Trifari's popular mid-century brooches so they were dated to distinguish them from the original patented pieces.

2000 to current
The current pieces are produced overseas and are not marked. These are generally of lesser quality than the pieces produced in the USA before 2000.
