Hopefully, by the time I am done with this page, I will have one of the most comprehensive and informative collections of jewelry utility patents found anywhere on the web today!
Before I started this page I had no idea there were so many different jewelry utility patents (most are earring patents- I have found 48 so far)!
​The patents on this page are grouped by type and then by file date.  Most of the patents on this page are utility patents but I have included 4 design patents to provide a better idea of what was being used in that particular time period.  Eventually I will be adding information on why they believe their invention is an improvement or different from its predecessors.
I still have dozens and dozens to add!
I will be spacing them more properly after I have all the patents that I know about on the page.
Duettes & Clip Mates Patents (all could be worn as a combined piece or separates)
As you can see Gaston Candas (for Coro duettes) patented his idea for attaching 2 clips so that they may be worn as 1 piece or separate as 2 pieces before Trifari patented theirs.

Brooch Patents

​Earring Patents 
These are two 1881 patents by George Washburn.  The first one is a mechanism to secure earrings onto pierced ears in which you will hear it 'click' into place so you know your earring is secure.  The second patent is a revision on the first.  He made the ear wire smaller and stated that it could even be omitted for earlobes that were not pierced.
​The spring in this clip would let the wearer adjust the pressure to provide more security and comfort

I have placed these 2 here together (slightly out of date order with the rest of the earring patents) because the second one is a revised version of the first one.  It was Georges Ebertin's intent to make a clip less expensive to manufacture and add features that were more convenient to operate and to wear. These features included being more lightweight, more secure and more comfortable.  He also intended for his clips to hold the piece of jewelry on the ear or on a garment.

Rings
​This utility patent that was designed by Royal Marcher for Coro actually opens to a compartment under the stone so that the wearer can place a perfume absorption material! 
Vendome actually claims this patent for their rings.  It also talks about them in it's 1969 ad "Every fabulous Vendome ring will fit every one of your pretty fingers."
